Basic DS (Disclosure Scotland)

Disclosure Scotland (DS) are the Governing Body that deal with all the Basic applications for the whole of the UK. As there was such a high demand when DBS checks (formerly CRB) first came into place Disclosure Scotland took over all the Basic checks to try an avoid any delay.

Who can apply for a DS Check

As there is no eligibility criteria for a Basic check, anyone can apply, this includes:

  • Sole Traders
  • Individuals
  • Applicants who are not providing support, guidance or personal care
  • Ex Patriots

 How can I obtain a DS Check

Applying for a Basic check as a self-employed/sole trader, individual, Ex Pat or International Individual:

  1. Contact us and retrieve log in details for our online service
  2. Complete the on-line application form
  3. Scan 3 form of ID over to us (Must include either passport or driving licence)
  4. Make the payment for your application via BACS so we can send the application for processing
  5. Once the application is complete, we will receive the certificate that we will send on to you at your home address

Applying for a Basic Check as an employer:

  1. You will need to register your company first
  2. You will receive log in details for the on-line service or paper application forms
  3. Ask the applicants to fill out the application forms (paper or on-line)
  4. Once we receive the application forms we will then raise an invoice, once this is paid we will send this over to DS for processing
  5. Once the application is complete we will receive the certificate and forward this onto you as the employer
